The Scrunchi story

Hold the phone!!!  Remember my post about beautiful waves via my trusty scrunchi?  Well, everyone thought I was crazy and stuck in the ‘80s but look what my daughter found on the internet!  The following is from The Beauty Department.  (This exact post is titled Winter Rescue).

Can you believe it?  So you see, the Hair Care Girl lifestyle (read: minimize hair damage) is recommended by experts!

Now I’m off to buy an avocado to try the make-at-home deep conditioner!

Living the Hair Care Girl LifeStyle...

Truth be told.

Day 2 and loving it!

I know, I know, you haven’t heard from me in a while. It’s been so long in fact, I can’t even remember the last time I posted. I could figure it out, but that’s not important. What’s important is why I haven’t written.

You see a funny thing happened this summer. It’s been going on for a while and I had to get settled with it before I wrote about it. I needed to see if it was real. Or if I was just lazy.

Turns out both are true.

So (deeeep breath) here it goes. I’m not waiting 14 days to wash my hair anymore. (and exhale)

“What?! Hair Care Girl say it isn’t so!”

I know I can’t believe it either.

If you’ve been here a while you know the whole reason I started the Hair Care Girl lifestyle was because my hair was fried (really, really fried). The years of highlights, blow dryers, and hair straighteners had taken their blistering toll leaving me with hair that would shock a scarecrow.

It was that bad.

So I stopped washing it every day. And it helped. A lot!

But then I changed the color of my hair. I became a brunette. And I love, love, love it. (Although now that it’s dark I see I really do have grey hair!).

Now that I’m adding color rather than taking it away my hair is healthier, softer, and easier. And because it’s healthier I don’t have be so militant about my hair care routine.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m still lazy. I still have way better things to do than wash, dry, and style my hair. I would still much rather sit around and drink coffee all morning than stand in the bathroom blow drying my hair. And I still truly believe the less heat you apply to your hair the better.

But 14 days? Not so necessary anymore.

So I’ve learned to compromise – to follow my hair intuition.

Now I wash my hair every 7-10 days. It’s not quite 14, but it’s certainly not every day either. I am also not doing as many fancy styles because I’m not trying to cover up my dark roots. Which is why there are fewer posts lately.

Also it gets dark by the time my kids photographers are available making photo opportunities slim pickins.

So there ya have it. And you know what?

I love it that I can change my mind, my life, and still stay true to my values.

I love it that I can over sleep, get distracted, and play in the morning instead of putting these things off because “I need to do my hair”.

And I love it that I’ve learned so much about what works for me and maybe, just maybe that has inspired you to look at what you do and make it work for you.
