Hair Math 101

Day 2: It's all in the math

Yesterday I spent 90 minutes getting ready.  That may seem like a lot but I only spend this amount of time on my hair twice a month.  And it pays off because if my hair looks good on Day 1, days 2, 3, and 4, etc. need even less time.

It used to be I would spend about an hour getting ready.  Everyday.  This included showering, shampooing, conditioning, drying, straightening, getting frustrated and pulling my hair back anyway, applying make up, choosing jewelry, outfit, etc.

Of course I still do my make up, choose my outfits and jewelry.  But my showers are shorter (no waiting for that conditioner to “soak” in) and I skip the blow drying.  Which took f.o.r.e.v.e.r.  I also don’t need the straightening time.

Here’s the math for an average month:

The old way:
# of days = 30
25 days x 1 hour = 25 hours [these are the full getting ready days]
5 days x 30 minutes = 2.5 hours [these are the weekends when I didn’t care so much about my hair.
Total time using the old system: 27.5 hours

The Hair Care Girl way:
# of days = 30 (all days count in the Hair Care Girl lifestyle)
2 days x 1.5 hours = 3 hours
28 days x .5 hours = 14 hours
Total time using the Hair Care Girl System: 17 hours

This a savings of 10.5 hours a month.  That’s more than a full work day!

So you can see why that 90 minutes on Day 1 is no biggie.

What would you do if you had a spare 10.5 hours in a month?  Would you weed your yard, pamper yourself, spend time with friends and family?

Me?  I sit in my chair sipping coffee while my teenagers shower, blow dry, and straighten.

By the way, the picture above is Day 2.  I don’t think I even brushed it today.

Total time from shower to shoes: 20 minutes

Day 1 trepidation? Say it isn’t so!

Day 1: Say NO to exercise!

This is what I love about Day 1.  Soft fluid hair.  Here is what I hate about Day 1: sleeping on said hair.

I will do anything, anything(!) not to ruin my hair on day 1.  Exercise?  Forget it.  Ponytail?  No way.  Hairspray.  Nope.  Rain?  Get me an umbrella, quick!  And sleep?  Well, this Hair Care Girl loooooves to sleep.  But settling my head on my pillow is fraught with trepidation.

But I do it anyway because without sleep I’m cranky and wrinkled.

But you know what?  My hair always looks better on Day 2.  On Day 2 sometimes I don’t even brush it!  I just walk right out my door and greet the world.

Total time for shower to shoes (this is a full-on hair care day!): 90 minutes
(remember that 90 minutes, it’s going to come in handy later)
